The Olsen Hardness Tester is a standard constant-load thrust hardness tester
used in a wide range of inspection uses with foundations and other cosmetic
products. A pressure globe having a specified spherical area is used to press a
sample with a specified load. The depth of the dent made is detected with a dial
gage, and the hardness of the sample measured. The load can be varied by
changing samples from 1 to 3 pounds (1 pound = 453.5 g). The pressure
globe is moved up and down by operating the handle, so that no error is made
whoever is the inspector
